Maturity

Too many people blamed their immaturity for the wrong decisions they had made in their life. I beg to differ. I do think it is a matter of being responsible to oneself; and responsibility is a thought and an action. There will be planning, prioritization of things to do and followed by ticking off the list on a daily basis. After that, the discipline will kick in, and the freedom to choose which task to tick off the list first, will come in a timely fashion. How many of us can take responsibility well? Being responsible means we have to manage the situation ourselves. There is an obligation to deal with the issues within our power by being a responsible person. We cannot depend on others to do the job for us.

Many times, being responsible could bring changes to our life, and we have to adapt to it. Young children can be taught how to be responsible from a young age by involving them in a community project like recycling, reuse and reduce. We have to set a good example by keeping to our words. We should praise the children when they have done things right; but we should acknowledge their mistakes as well. They need to reflect on where they have done wrong. At the same time, we could also show them that if we have done our best; it is what matters most too. By showing and giving them the freedom to be responsible for things; they will learn how to be accountable for their behavior.

Accountability and responsibility do work hand-in-hand to build maturity in thyself. Pampering, smothering and over-protectiveness will not help us to be matured. This applies across all genders and ages. Here, to a better world by building responsibility from young; and do not think it is too late to start too. As the saying goes, it is better late than never. Let me end this thought with one of my favorite quotes from Hermann Hesse, Gertrude, “Youth ends when egotism does; maturity begins when one lives for others.”
